President Trump Signs Rep. Goldman’s Bill to Repeal Costly Energy Regulations

May 9, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Craig Goldman (R-TX) released the following statement.

“I’m honored to have been in the Oval Office today to witness President Trump sign H.J. Res. 75 into law. This bill will help lower the cost of living for Americans across the nation. H.J. Res. 75, which I authored in the U.S. House, repeals the Biden administration’s costly government regulations that would have raised prices on all American consumers,” said Congressman Craig Goldman. “I appreciate Senator Moody for leading the measure through the Senate. I will continue to work to rein in government overreach and burdensome regulations to keep costs down for the citizens of the United States.”

Last month, Senator Moody led the companion bill in the U.S. Senate. “In the last few days in office, the Biden-Harris administration attempted to jam through their partisan green new scam agenda onto consumers and businesses through regulations. If allowed to remain on the books, commercial manufacturers would be forced to discontinue product lines and close factories across America. I was proud to take this fight head on and I am thankful that President Trump has now signed this legislation into law. When I took the oath of office, I promised to work hard on behalf of the people of Florida and undo the damage the Biden administration inflicted on this nation. 100 days in and legislation to do just that was signed into law. We are just getting started,” said Senator Ashely Moody.

“These resolutions of disapproval under the Congressional Review Act are a critical part of our work to eliminate the costly and burdensome regulations that failed to serve the best interests of American families and businesses,” said Congressman Brett Guthrie, Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. “From increasing the costs of refrigeration equipment used by small businesses to regulating reporting requirements for appliance manufacturers to banning gas-fired water heaters, the Biden-Harris Administration attempted to impose a far-left agenda that put Green New Deal-style policies ahead of the American people. Thank you to President Trump for reversing these regulations and to Chairman Palmer and Congressman Goldman for your leadership on these important issues.”

Background:

This legislation passed through the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate by votes of 214-193 and 52-46, respectively. H.J. Res. 75, enacted under the Congressional Review Act, repeals the Biden administration’s energy conservation standards for commercial refrigerators and freezers. The Department of Energy estimated that these regulations would impose an $8 billion burden on manufacturers and small businesses by requiring costly equipment redesigns and manufacturing upgrades. Ultimately, these costs would be passed on to consumers through higher prices.

Congressman Goldman wrote an op-ed in The Hill explaining how his resolution is a necessary measure to cut red tape and lower the cost of living for Americans.
