Art Competition

The 2025 Congressional High School Art Competition has officially begun! Sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives, the Congressional High School Art Competition is an annual, nationwide contest drawing from each congressional district and recognizes the artistic talents of young artists in our communities.

Congressman Craig Goldman is excited to invite all high school students in Texas’ 12th Congressional District to participate in this honored tradition across the nation.

Details:

  • Who can participate:
    • The competition is open to public, private, and home-schooled high school students residing in and attending schools located in Texas’ 12th Congressional District.
    • You may verify addresses here: Find Your Representative | house.gov
  • Deadline:
    • The deadline for our office to receive submissions is 5:00 PM on Friday, April 11th, 2025.
    • Please keep in mind when designing your art that although we request a digital photocopy for submission, the final copy of the artwork, if requested, may be any medium mentioned in the rules and regulations document.
  • How to submit artwork:
    • Students wishing to participate in this year’s contest must submit one entry digitally along with a completed Student Release Form, signed by the student, a parent/guardian, and a teacher. Step-by-step instructions are as follows:
      • Create a wonderful piece of art. Rules and guidelines are found (here) and at the “Rules and requirements?” section of this webpage.
      • Complete the Student Release Form. You can download the Student Release Form (here) or fill it in at the bottom of this webpage.
        • The Student Release Form must be signed by the student, a parent/guardian, and a teacher.
      • Send the signed Student Release Form and the digital art copy to TX12ArtCompetition@mail.house.gov for final submission.
  • How the winner is selected:
    • After the deadline, a committee of local community members will review the submitted artwork and select the winner by Friday, April 18th, 2025.
  • If you are selected:
    • The winning artist will be contacted directly, and the artwork will be displayed in the United States Capitol for an entire year! The winning artwork is also featured on House.gov's Congressional Art Competition page. Additionally, all submissions meeting requirements will be posted in a virtual gallery throughout the year on Congressman Goldman’s website: http://craiggoldman.house.gov.
  • Required theme of artwork:
    • No specific theme.
  • Rules and requirements:
    • Artwork entered in the contest may be up to 26 inches by 26 inches, may be up to 4 inches in depth, and not weigh more than 15 pounds. If your artwork is selected as the winning piece, it must arrive framed and must still measure no larger than the above maximum dimensions.
      • Paintings - including oil, acrylics, and watercolor
      • Drawings - including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers (It is recommended that charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed.)
      • Collages - must be two dimensional
      • Prints - including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints
      • Mixed Media - use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.
      • Computer-generated art
      • Photography
    • All entries must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws. Any entry that has been copied from an existing photo or image (including a painting, graphic, or advertisement) that was created by someone other than the student is a violation of the competition rules and will not be accepted. Work entered must be in the original medium (that is, not a scanned reproduction of a painting or drawing).
